It's All About Liguria
What's the point of doing a geography degree if you aren't going to do a trip abroad?! Well now that you ask there isn't. So in our third year, there was a selection of trips to choose from including Berlin, New York, and Mexico my housemate and geographic partner in crime Jenni wanted to go somewhere that you wouldn't go on holiday and to go explore and learn about a new corner of the world. That corner ended up being the Liguria region in the north of Italy, with five other crazy people missing out on the big city trips to research about the areas depleting population to be used in the regeneration of the district. Apart from me and Jen we all knew of each other but never really interacted due to being from different friendship groups and studying different aspects of geography. So we formally introduced ourselves at the check-in desk at Stansted airport, getting to know one another we all clambered onto the Ryanair flight to Genoa. Which soon escalated into an exciting flight as we came to land the nose the airplane suddenly pulled up, with the force of acceleration pin you to your chair. Apparently, the fog was to thick to land so we were being redirected to Piza airport this was thrilling to us as we weren't in charge and most of us wanted to catch a glimpse of the Leaning Tower of Piza. Which we got after waiting for our lectures who had arrived a week prior to drive from Genoa airport to Piza. We then spent five days interviewing locals in this beautiful part of Italy, the people were full of hospitality I have never eaten so much handmade cake and bread! Nights were spent transcribing interviews for our own individual research projects, even more, food and then drinking a local spirit known as grappa in the local pub. I had a wonderful week and I am really proud of the work I wrote but more than that as partial strangers I have never known seven people to get on so well, so quickly!
