The Berlin Blogs - Day Two
Day Two, we
tried to get up early but early turned out to be around 11, so we quickly got
ready and set out to Museum Island... yes MUSEUM ISLAND! It consisted 5 of
Berlins greatest museums show casing art, artefacts and discoveries from all
over the world all found in The Bode, Neues Museum,
Atlas Museum, Pergamon Museum, and The Alte National Gallerie. These building where sights in their
own right to the beautiful architecture of the past to the way the interior was extremely modern and
the polar opposite to the exterior focusing your attention to the array of pieces
Berlin had acquired, So as you can imagine aloooottt of photo opportunities! I
think without a shadow of a doubt my favourite museum on the island, was the all
awaited Pergamon Museum, which showcased some of the most
jaw dropping things either of us had
ever seen. Including a re-erected roman alter, tiles of the Ishtar Gate
and stunning Islamic
fireplaces adorned in jewels! After grabbing lunch we headed to the Berliner
Dom the Cathedral in the heart of the city, where an exquisite dome floated over
the main hall as the biggest organs I have ever seen was being played! We then walked up 2000
steps to reach the walk way on the roof that circled the dome and gave us a 360° of the
whole of the mitte borough of Berlin which was incredible, on the green tin roof we wrote our names :) To finish the day we then
jumped onto a river cruise, it gave us a chance to see the city from a
different perspective and to place many of the things we wanted to see in the
city later in the week, and it was a wonderful way to end our second day in
Berlin!
