It's All About Rock & River

So when you do your Duke of Edinburgh Award there is a number of things you have to do alongside the walking and camping, you have to complete a skills, physical and volunteering section that last  up to 6 months. But when you get to gold that changes you have to go on a residential for a week. All my group went to an army training camp, but me and one other girl couldn’t make it, So we ended up going to Rock & River an outdoor pursuits centre in Lancashire for 5 days. We had such a great week there, we got to help out and try loads of the activities, so we couldn’t complain, including archery, climbing, slack lining, raft building and so many more I can’t even remember. The lads who worked there made us feel so welcome and like we had been there for years! I learnt alot there, not just how to tighten a harness or a figure of eight not, but alot about myself, that pushing yourself out your comfort zone really does work. If you had said to me this time last year, you and one other girl will live and work at an outdoor pursuits centre for a week, with a group of older lads, I would of laughed in your face and then hid somewhere just in case you were telling the truth! But I did it, the second thing I learnt and probably the most important lesson, that life is just a little too short. The last year I have worried about so many things and been anxious on a daily basis about the future to the point I was missing right now, and over things that in 5 years time I won’t even be able to recall. Being there for just a week I seen that the guys who worked there seemed to be so chilled and living their lives to the full and enjoying themselves! So its a lesson I am trying to live by!
